Welcome to MMAMTA - Local association of Music teachers National Association (MTNA)! We hope this electronic version of our Handbook will add to our group interest and purpose, and further expand our membership.

The total fee for the 2016-2017 membership at all three tiers (National, State, Local) is $111, and it is broken down like this: Mid Missouri Area MTA Local Dues $15.00 Missouri MTA / MO State Dues $21.00 - Active National Dues $75.00. Be sure to sign-up at the Local Level (Mid Missouri Area) for ALL the benefits you receive as teachers and your students throughout the year! Individual Membership Your membership is a joint membership with MTNA, Missouri MTA, and Mid-Missouri Area MTA. Add national, state, and local dues to determine your total. If you already are a member of the National and State and have moved to another city please contact Elaine Donaldson at email@example.com instead of joining online.
Active Membership: Join between 7/1 and 12/31/2016: $75.00* Join between 1/1 and 6/30/2017: $37.50* “Active Membership shall be open to all individuals who are professionally engaged in any field of music activity and who are also members of an affiliated (state) association.”
Within the Active Membership category is the senior discount policy, which grants members 70 years of age and older a discount of 25% on national dues. One does not have to be a member for five consecutive years to obtain the senior discount rate.
However, the 70 year of age rule does not impact members who currently receive a 50% discount. Those members who received a 50% reduction in national dues during the 2016-2017 membership year and prior are grandfathered in under the 50% reduction. The dues amount is $37.50*
Emeritus refers to a member’s MTNA certification status.
Retired Membership: $37.50* "Retired Membership is open to those who have been active members for at least 20 continuous years, are age 65 or greater and are essentially retired from teaching. A member must send written notice to the MTNA executive director for this class of membership to be activated. Retired members may vote, but cannot hold elective office at the division or national levels or enter students in MTNA competitions. A retired member must also be a member of a state affiliated association."
Collegiate Membership: $19.00* “Collegiate Membership is open to all college music students who are also members of an affiliated state association and a collegiate chapter if available. College members have access to many MTNA services and receive American Music Teacher magazine, theMTNA e-Journaland member discounts, but do not have the right to vote or hold office or enter students in MTNA Competitions. The collegiate membership year runs from October 1 through September 30.”
Upon graduation from college an MTNA student member may receive a 50% discount on National dues when changing their membership category from student to active. A student member may either write or call National Headquarters to apply for this discount.
MTNA National Collegiate membership dues are $19. State membership dues are $5.00.
International Membership (State and local dues not applicable): $70.00* “International Membership shall be open to nationals of other countries and US citizens residing in countries outside the United States and its territories. They shall not have the right to vote, hold office, or enter students in MTNA competitions.”
Institutional Membership: $200.00* “Institutional Membership shall be open to those institutions that have an interest in furthering the mission of MTNA. Institutional members shall not have the right to vote, hold office, or enter students in MTNA competitions. However, the music executive of each Institutional Member who has paid the appropriate state membership dues shall have all the rights and privileges of Active Membership.”
Corporate Membership: $200.00* “Corporate Membership shall be open to those businesses or corporations who have an interest in furthering the mission of MTNA. Corporate members shall not have the right to vote or hold office.”
Patron Membership (State and local dues not applicable): $75.00* “Patron Membership shall be open to all individuals who wish to support the programs of the Association. Patron members shall not have the right to vote, hold office, or enter students in MTNA competitions as a Patron Member.”
Six-Month Membership: "Six-Month Membership is available to individuals meeting active membership criteria who have never been MTNA members. The six-month membership runs from January 1 through June 30. Many states also offer six-month memberships."
