Statement of Purpose
The Mid-Missouri Area Music Teachers Association (MMAMTA) was established in 1978 to:
- Meet specific needs of the music teachers in the community
- Raise the standards of music teaching
- Recommend, protect, and support those teachers who qualify for membership
- Stimulate interest in good music and student achievement, and enjoy the stimulus that is provided through frequent exchange of ideas
- Cooperate with other musical organizations in an effort to develop high musical standards
- Set up and enforce a strong code of ethics, based upon the MTNA National Code of Ethics
- Provide student recitals and auditions
- Present workshops
- Provide a variety of educational and inspirational programs
- Acquaint the teachers with the benefits, advantages, and privileges of membership in MTNA at all levels - local, state, division and national
- Accumulate resources to aid talented students in Music Camp and College Music Scholarships
- Dignify our profession in the community
The Mid-Missouri Area Music Teachers Association is affiliated with the Missouri Music Teachers Association (MMTA) and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), a non-profit organization, serving teachers of all fields of applied music and related areas. It was established in 1876, and is the oldest music organization in the United States. Benefits of membership in MTNA and of participation in MMAMTA include:
- American Music Teachers - Official journal of MTNA with articles on all fields of music
- MMTA Notes - Official state publication of national and state activities, upcoming programs, awards, honors, etc.
- MMAMTA Newsletters - Informing you of coming events
- Local, District, State, and National Auditions - for piano, voice, orchestral, and band instruments
- Student Composition Contests - Elementary, junior high, senior high, and college levels
- National and State conventions are held throughout the country to give members the opportunity to experience growth as professional music teachers
- National and State Certification - In 1967, MTNA established a national certification plan that is available to all members
